BOSTON — One former Brew Crew star brought a championship to Beantown this August, adding another ring to an already established CV, thanks to his years spent in the heart of MVP’s dynasty.
Capt. Kyle Baylous, PhD, shipped up north last fall after serving as the defensive anchor behind MVP’s historic run.
Long before the JM took control, Baylous had survived, and thrived, under pretty tough regimes, emerging from that period capable of producing while navigating authoritarian tendencies.
His final full-time season in the DSSL began disastrously at the plate, prompting a midseason move to leadoff that quickly revitalized both his year and MVP’s lineup. And by season’s end, he was once again an essential contributor to the Brew Crew’s 2025 championship season.
It was Baylous’ bat, along with an errant throw, that delivered the title-winning run. Rather than cool off during the offseason, he carried that momentum straight into 2026.
During the Winter Meetings, KB signed with The Softball Team of Boston’s TJX Softball League after their GM implored he join in a very animated pitch over a Pats game. His logic was straightforward: KB was the greatest shortstop he’d ever seen, representing exactly the sort of acquisition a title-hungry club needs.
Baylous gave them considerably more than they could have expected. He immediately stepped into the 3-hole, replacing their best player named “Rebecca”, though Kyle denies that, and within roughly an inning had established himself as the league’s premier defensive shortstop.
The move to the heart of the lineup may surprise those familiar with KB’s MVP career, where his offensive value often came from getting on base and letting the lineup work behind him.
Fortunately, unlike the DSSL, the TJX League does not appear to test for PEDs, and KB allegedly used those sticky fingers to swipe a few pills from Muscles’ medicine cabinet before shipping up to Boston.
The results, frankly, were like A-Rod’s Texas Ranger years.
Baylous hit .820 and launched more home runs in a single Boston summer (6) than he managed across his entire MVP career, a span of 45 games over seven seasons (3).
Now a champion on both sides of the Northeast corridor, Capt. has expressed a desire to return to the island more in 2027, hoping to provide whatever Muscles-enhanced, Nomar-power he can muster while helping the Brew Crew reclaim its place atop the DSSL.
The pills may be in Boston. The heart, rightfully so, is still with MVP.
