Final Results

  • Boys – W (7-6)
  • Goblins – PPD
  • Bagas – L (16-10)

Record: 1-1 | 17 RF, 22 RA, -5 RD

MVP has matched up with four teams in the DSSL finals since 2019, three of which were featured consecutively to kick off the 2026 season. The only team missing, conveniently, was the commissioner’s.

Fortunately, a washout during the dreary MDW spared what would’ve been yet another thin MVP lineup or forfeit altogether.

In other news, Cirincione, one of MVP’s best hitters of all-time, confirmed he’s out for 2026, in for 2027. Better news, Pat has a speaker; walk-up songs are back, and, the best news: Loesch is confirmed for Fathers Day.

Game 1: Boys (Opening Day)

Get’em a Brew: Ev, SS | 4-5, 2 Runs, RBI, 2B, scored winning run in 9th

Pat, Jewish Shohei, and newcomers, Rob and Chris, all collected three hits, each scoring once, with Pat driving home two during the finals rematch.

DNP: Bua & Donegan – Missing; Crit – Sets Alarm for 9 PM; Munchie – LIRR Strike

  • Game played at dreadful Track Field
  • One Leg’s first OF start since 2019
  • New Stats: ‘Whiffs’ 4x, Shane Ks
  • Pio robs Mullahey in grand fashion

Unsurprisingly, a single run separated these depleted clubs on a sunny Opening Day. Masterfully, the JM pulled the right strings in his debut, pairing a makeshift defense, aided by thick grass, with timely offense, late, started by himself.

A tight score throughout, MVP entered the 9th square at 5. The JM led off with a knock, and scored, alongside Ev, via a two-run single off the bat of ZDubs, which proved to be the difference.

Mazel on the Jewish Shohei’s 1st win as JM!

MVP 7-6

Game 2: Bagas

Get’em a Brew: Shane, 3B | 4-5, 2 Runs, RBI, 2 2Bs, great defense & ass

The 2x Gold Glove winner showed out at the hot corner while adding a team-high four hits. Pat collected three knocks once again, with the rest of the Crew picking up two or less hits in today’s loss.

DNP: Bua & Donegan – Still Missing; Munchie – Pulls Ryan James; CJ – Libations

  • One Leg pulls his hammy during non-softball activities
  • Shane runs routine attendance check, Crit responds accordingly
  • MVP OF on life-support, aides in late rally for Bagas
  • Bagas got better, hand Jewish Shohei first loss as JM

MVP has had the aging Bagas’ number as of late, including beating them in a finals, while wearing costumes (not at the same time), and across multiple playoff games, including last year’s semi-finals, 14-3.

Today looked like more of the same through 2.5 innings, as MVP jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead and seemed poised to cruise, or destined to collapse?

The formidable veterans weren’t going quietly, taking advantage of extra outs and gifted bases courtesy of MVP’s outfield. The culprit was hard to ignore: a banged-up Golden Boy in LF, while Z and Rob were asked to patrol the rest of the grass as non-outfielders by trade, sparking debate amongst defensive alignments.

Nonetheless, tied at 10 after a three-run rally in the top of the 7th, MVP unraveled at the seams, allowing six in the bottom half, and showed little fight, recording six outs in as many batters to end the game, citing no pop in the bats as the cause.

Intervention for Ev?

Bagas 16-10

Interviewed for the first time postgame, the new Brew Crew General Manager didn’t mince his words:

“Sunday was the Super Bowl for the Bagas; we’ll see them in August.”

Player of the Month: Mrs. Merrill, Team Historian

MVP’s 2026 offense is having a tough stretch to kick off the year, hitting .473 as a unit, and is yet to record a triple or home run, and poor Mrs. Merrill has had to watch every pitch.

While this is effectively a dead-ball league, allowing the AARP-eligible Bagas and Dugouts to continue participating, those familiar to the club are getting used to the new normal.

“I have no idea who they are, and I don’t think they do either.”

Mrs. Merrill

I’ve tried looking for a way to spin it, but the numbers tell a simple story: Ben Rice is hitting better than MVP. With Rice sitting at 1.055 OPS and 44 runs scored, MVP’s 1.022 OPS and 17 runs puts the club at Loesch-level efficiency.

For those unfamiliar, Tom’s main attribute is his playful banter with Shane, and as MVP’s former ace pitcher. The club’s current batting leader even matched Tom’s BA last season, .625. More below.

Batting Title

Leader: Rob, .625

For the first time since 2018, a rookie is the current batting leader. I’m sure not many of you had this on your bingo card; congrats Rob!

Looking at the rest of the group, the usual faces are right there with “dead bats”, and, one too many, dragging a few back. Good news, it’s early days and MVP faced two great defenses to start the season.

I’m bullish these numbers only improve with a lighter stretch of games in June, only increasing my faith in Pat, and his consistency, to take home the crown.

Latest BA Leaders:

  1. Rob, .625
  2. 3 Players, .600
    • Pat, Ev, & Shane
  3. 3 Players, .500
    • Jon, Chris, & Crit

Latest odds courtesy of MVP Sportsbook below:

  1. Ev +325 (Triple Crown +1300)
  2. Pat +375
  3. JM + 400
  4. Z +450
  5. Shane +600
  6. Field +1200
