For the first two innings, MVP found themselves locked in a patient battle. The Bagas, their longest-standing rival in the DSSL, silenced MVP’s bats while scratching across three runs in the second inning. The early lead felt like a warning but most were too hungover to care.
Then came the third inning.
Something clicked, and MVP erupted. Over the next five innings, they launched an unrelenting offensive onslaught, scoring 28 runs while the Bagas managed only nine in response. MVP’s timely hitting shifted momentum and turned the game from a tight contest into a runaway victory.
Munchie and his majestic mane provided one of the morning’s biggest moments: an inside-the-park home run, his first ever in the DSSL. Big Z, Rich, and Ev took advantage of the menacing Bayberry fences. Meanwhile, Johnny 1-Leg, who has his other leg dabbling in a 60+ league, was instrumental, collecting three two-out hits that extended rallies and added nine more runs to MVP’s total.
While the Bett’s (8-10, 12 RBIs) reaped the benefits from traffic on the bases, the victory wasn’t just about a few standout performances. Ev contributed four hits and four RBIs, Matty Bay added three RBIs, and Shane, KB, and Brady each finished with four hits and three RBIs of their own. The contributions stretched across the roster, ensuring that MVP’s offense never lost its rhythm.
As the morning progressed, one simmering storyline emerged: Johnny 1-Leg’s umpiring. Brady, stepping up in the 9th, had been flawless, navigating each at-bat with precision, until Johnny 1-Leg called him out at first. Though this wasn’t the first gentlemen’s call we’ve seen, the dugout was silenced with a sense of great shock. Had 1-Legs reputation as the team’s nicest guy doomed him? Had his unwavering honesty cost Brady the perfect ending upon his return from a picture perfect Italian elopement? The conversation carried well into the post-game celebrations, leaving the team in debate over whether 1-Leg was simply too pure for umpiring.
Now, this could be simply avoided if literally anyone other than 1-Leg coached the bases…
MVP faces the Dugouts next Sunday at the Farm Field in their sole matchup of the regular season.
