Est. 2008 | Home of 6x DSSL Champs

In a weekend filled with beers, sunshine, an extra day, and patriotism, MVP’s lineup spit on all that makes MDW so great.

Apparently not, Randy Marsh, apparently not. Many MVP members showed up sunburnt, hungover, and just at the start of game time. A true display of dedication. If you’re shocked we lost and can’t bear the thought of hearing more, here’s what you missed:

  • Ryan James shows up in jorts, strikes out, and throws a ball to the woods
  • Shane White spectacular at third base and goes 3-3 with and RBI
  • Biemer 3-3, expected to slide in 2-hole next week
  • 8-16 in lineup score ZERO runs combined, 6 go hitless
  • MVP hits into 3 double plays
  • Loesch rocked in leg by yet another line drive, expected to make full recovery

Jumping back to the action, MVP seemed to get off on the wrong foot as even the pregame warm-ups would serve as a sign of things to come. Full team, batting practice, and girlfriends settling into their seats. That would be the Boys’ side. MVP, however, had more than one regular casually stroll in without a care in the world at 9:28AM, girlfriend-less.

After trading in a US quarter for a British pound, the MVP GM successfully won the coin toss and things were off.

After a scoreless top half of the first, thanks in large part to Shane White’s brilliance at the hot corner, MVP came back with 2 runs as Rizz and Shane came in on a pair of singles by Cirincione and RJ. The Boys responded by scoring 5 runs through the 2nd-4th inning, keeping MVP scoreless after a string of pathetic and feeble attempts at the plate, collecting 3 hits in that time.

After a 3-run bomb in the top of the 5th, MVP found themselves trailing 8-2. How would the reigning champs respond? Rather, the reigning batting champ? After Shane and Cirincione collected hits, RJ steps up to the plate anddddd STRIKES OUT!!!!!! Ryan James struck out. Ryan James struck out. Ryan James struck out. Ryan James struck out. Ryan James struck out.

You get it, Ryan James struck out.

2 would come across, cutting the deficit to 8-4, but a 3-run top of the 6th would put the Boys back in the driver’s seat, 11-4. Despite great defense from MVP from the 7th inning on, they could only squander 3 runs and, with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, Everett Wehr tries to make something happen, fail miserably, and MVP’s potential for another late walk-off against the Boys is spoiled.

FINAL: Boys 11-7.

**A note from the GM**

As disappointing as this loss may have been for the club, we still had one, singular positive; it was great to see John “One-Leg” Merrill back on the field for the first time since cheating death. A kudos to you, Johnny 1-Leg. Welcome back.

Happy Memorial Day to those in our MVP family that served this country and apologies to you for your descendants playing like a team qualifying for Williamsport.

Next week is jersey day as MVP takes on the Stoners at the Tennis Court Field.
