We’re back, baby. In a rather casual opening day, the MVP Brew Crew appeared to be in midseason form, finishing with a 22-12 victory over the up-and-coming Bullworms.

Respecting a time-honored tradition, the GM lost the coin toss. Stepping up to the plate first, MVP’s reigning MVP faced a peculiar defensive shift. In what appeared to be a power move, Bullworms first-baseman assumed a bunt defense distance against the reigning MVP/GM of the year. After a verbal warning towards the WBC Veteran, the GM megged him and MVP did not look back. The leadoff double was buttoned up by Shane White’s first of two homers on the day. And, after a bit off small-ball between the Captain and Munchie, MVP found themselves up 3-1 after 1.

In the second, following homers by Mike Donegan (confirmed playing) and the GM, MVP took a commanding 8-2 lead after 2. A lead that MVP took for granted as over the 3rd and 4th inning, MVP found themselves only leading by a score of 11-6 and lead that both the fans and clubhouse deemed too vulnerable of a lead to be complacent.

The causal nature of MVP’s play continued throughout the the 5th inning as MVP’s lead was cut in half to 12-9 through 5. Unsatisfied, but unwavered, the GM said absolutely nothing, allowing his players to seize the opportunity. To which, they failed to do so through the 8th, mainly due to the GM’s untimely and uncharacteristic blunders defensively. After 8, MVP had two things: a pissed off GM and a 1-run lead. Would it prove to be the difference?

Hard to tell.

In the top of the ninth, the young Everett (self-proclaimed future triple crowning-winner) Wehr put the team on his back and led off the inning with a double. 9 hits and 9 runs later, including a ridiculous 3-run blast from Shane White (estimated 422 feet) and some questionable calls, MVP went into the latter half of the 9th in full-stride with a 10-run lead. After an uneventful bottom of the 9th, the former champs walked away from Opening Day victorious, 22-12.
