Is this the beginning of the end for Tom Loesch’s Cy Young run?
Potentially.
Late Thursday night, Jon Rich approached MVP GM and requested a few innings on the mound Sunday against the Stoners. Because of Rich’s masterful showing against the Goblins, the GM took it one step further and elected to give J-Rich the nod for his first career start. This would end Tom Loesch‘s consecutive games started streak of 2482. Cal Ripken is safe for now.
What else did the GM have to sacrifice in order to make this move possible?
Not much.
Just that Tom Loesch can play TWO innings at shortstop. A deal that I think anyone in their right mind would make as Loesch showed he can play a serviceable short and it’s hilarious really.
In Rich’s one appearance on the mound for MVP this season, he allowed 7 runs in 7 innings, which is quite good for slow-pitch softball standards. Especially when we consider not a single position player was in their traditional spot throughout the entirety of the game. Rich also proved he is quite tough taking a ball off of the shin and still attempting to make the play. He looked rather inspired and when asked about that play he went on to say this:
“I thought to myself, what would Loesch do, or, rather, what would Gerard not do.”
Jon Rich, probably
While Nick Rizzi was looking for Tom Loesch hitting tutorials in the North Shore Public Library Archives, he was able to find an image from Tom Loesch’s pitching debut all the way back in 1926. Tom recorded the win in a 4-2 victory against the Rutabagas as they did not change their name to ‘Bagas’ until the 80’s and this was considered the ‘Dead Ball Era.’ Here’s a side by side of he and Rich from their first pitching appearances with MVP.

Rich appears excited to make his debut as his entire family, cousins as well, will be coming down to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The GM appears to be planting the seed for MVP’s future ace as Rich is seriously vying for a Cy Young award.
A big congratulations to Jon, see you Sunday for Crazy Hat Day and MVP history.
